The house

Lumis Home is located in the heart of probably the most beautiful village on the island and is part of the special atmosphere of the place. The house is newly renovated. It combines coziness with style in its detailed decoration. Modern furnishings are embedded in the traditional cave architecture. The walled courtyard offers absolute privacy and protects from the sometimes strong Cycladic wind. There, the heated Jacuzzi promises cooling during the day and relaxation in the evening. Lumis Home is wonderfully quiet, although the picturesque village square with several tavernas an excellent wine baran ice cream parlor and small stores is a few minutes walk away. The Caldera with its spectacular sunsets is also just a 10-minute walk away.

The facilities

Lumis Home is fully air-conditioned, offers wifi and a TV (including Netflix). The house has two interconnecting bedrooms, where box spring beds (160x200 cm and 120x200 cm) provide a relaxing night's sleep. The large bedroom also offers a small desk. The living room has a wide, comfortable sofa. The kitchen is separated from the living room by a bar with four stools. It is small but fully equipped with Nespresso coffee machine, two hotplates, kettle, fridge etc.

All rooms are furnished in boho style. Stylistically, the bathroom also fits seamlessly into the Lumis Home concept. Among other things, an open rain shower awaits you here.

The courtyard is furnished with chairs, table and a large beanbag to relax. The heated Jacuzzi can accommodate several guests at the same time, and a small lounging area next to it invites you to relax.

The village

Megalochori is probably the most beautiful village on the island with its white houses, blue roofs, churches and towers in narrow streets. It has a village square, unique for Santorini, around which taverns and restaurants are grouped. There you will not only get dinner or lunch, but also a very nice breakfast. But there are also other restaurants and taverns in the village - almost a dozen in total- as well as some small stores and a small supermarket. Lumis Home is only a few minutes walk from the center. Don't miss a wine tasting at the excellent Gavalas Winery and a visit to the Symposion Cultural Center where ancient Greek music and literature are brought into the modern age in events and workshops. So Megalochori offers everything travelers look for in the Cyclades, but unlike the towns of Fira (10-minute drive away) or Oia (30-minute drive away), it is not overrun with tourists. And you don't have to go to Fira or Oia in the evening to enjoy the spectacular sunset at the caldera. Because the crater rim is only a short walk away from Lumis Home. Our tip: Enjoy the sunset quietly and romantically with a drink and dinner on the terrace of the Athermi Suites Hotel (reservation recommended). With solid shoes, you can even hike down to the sea at the caldera, where small natural beaches offer a very special swimming experience.

Die Insel

For those who want to swim more comfortably and in style, the beaches in Perissa, Perivolos or Kamari are more suitable, each of which can be reached by car in about 15 minutes. The beach bar Forty One is a particularly relaxing place to chill out. Santorini is not a classic beach island, however. It is famous for its scenic uniqueness, which Santorini owes to a massive volcanic eruption more than 3500 years ago, during which a large part of the island literally exploded. This resulted in the spectacular steep slopes to which the white houses with their blue domes in the towns of Fira (Thira) and Oia literally cling. The two cities offer countless restaurants, bars and clubs, as well as excellent shopping opportunities. Also the various museums of the capital Fira (Thira).

A must-see are the archaeological sites near Akrotiri, where an impressive Bronze Age city was uncovered, buried under ash during the great volcanic eruption. A few meters away by the sea there are a number of good and inexpensive fish restaurants where you can eat the catch of the day right by the sea. The houses of Akrotiri itself are grouped around the remains of a Venetian castle from the Middle Ages. Here you can also find some cafes and restaurant.

From the villag of Pyrgos you can have a spectacular view over the whole island, if you don't mind the walk uphill through the narrow medieval streets to the remains of the Venetian fortifications. On the way and on the hilltop, however, there is always the possibility to refresh yourself in small bars and cafes.

Overall, Santorini stretches over only 76 square kilometers, the maximum length is 18 kilometers, the maximum width is 12 kilometers. About 16,000 people live on the island, which belongs to the Cyclades group of islands.
